You know, I've been talking all night about first conventions, so I decided to start a topic about it.
My first convention was in Boston at The Great American Anime Expo. (Thanks Patrick.) I met Lou Ferrigno, saw some comic book artists, it was fun, but not as spectacular as Anime Boston or CTCon.
My second con was a Star Trek one at the old G. Fox building in Hartford. Jeremy Bulloch was there with two Star Trek actors, it was pretty good, but I'm not too much of a Trekkie. Then ConnectiCon rolled around and there was Anime Boston and the rest is history.

GAAE was quite a flop. Hobbystar expected thousands to show up, but didn't really promote it at all. As a result, attendance was well under what they had promised to dealers.

I have photos from the event in the Reports section.

First anime convention was Otakon 2004. The year L'arc came to the BCC. I have been going to Comic Con's before that. My first convention of this type was the first Baltimore comic Con in 2000.

FanimeCon

I used to go to 3 cons a year but I've slowed down quite a bit. Fanime is the only con I go to now.

We're primarily known for being the "smaller" anime con in California (we all know what the "bigger" one is ^_^). In this case "smaller" means over 10,000 people.

My first convention was a little Star Trek convention in Portland, Maine. I got called up on stage and got to play "Wheel of Fortune" with James Doohan. I lost horribly on "Romulan Neutral Zone". (There was no "S"! WTF?) Then he told us all about Star Trek VI and I got to break the news to Usenet. Woot!

After that, I went to the Mystery Science Theater 3000 ConventioCon ExpoFest-O-Rama 2: Electric Bugaloo - The Harmonic Convergence...which is my second favorite convention to date.

A few years later, I went to BotCon '99 with a friend...but didn't find it interesting and decided not to go back in 2000. ...so my friend suggested we go to Anime Expo 2000 instead. We did and had a great time that year. That made me look up to see if there were any other cons closer to home. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a good, reliable schedule...so I started keeping my own. That eventually evolved into the site you're looking at now.

My #1 favorite convention of all time was Mikkakan. It was the 3rd anime convention I attended and was only held once in New Hampshire. ...but I was such a fan that I rescued the http://mikkakan.org/ domain name from domain squatters when it expired.

My first con was ______. Because i havent gone to one yet. Only because i have recently become interested in going to a con this year and something important usually conflicts with the con's date (Like college)
Right now i have a summer class and about two weeks after my summer class ends, my fall semester starts

I had that difficulty too, so what I ended up doing, and try to continue to do is to work my class sechdule around the con, otherwise, if you have really good attendance the professor won't mind if you take a day out if you let him/her ahead of time that you won't be there.

My first con was Otakon 2004. A online friend of mine was going and told me all about anime conventions, and I couldn't wait to go. Unfortunately I learned about the existence of anime cons less than a month after Anime Boston 2004

So I met up with her in Baltimore and had a blast (and got to see L'arc~en~Ciel!).

My first convention was Connecticon 2003. It was so tiny back then; of course it was their first year. I've enjoyed watching it grow over the years since I've been to every single one since. As of this year I'm even on staff (something I would have probably done sooner if it wasn't for a certain production I was in that we will not mention, LOL)

Mine was the first Portcon in 2002. My Friend talked me into it after hearing about it somewhere so we decided to go. We drove for an hour and back all 3 days and while it was fun, I felt a bit out of place, even as an otaku. Met some nice people who I've known now for years (The con chair Julie, Scott Meltzer of "This is Otakudom", and Cosplayer Pocky Princess Darcy) and even submitted an piece of art to the contest I literally drew in the main area of the con while killing time.

A few months later we went to Otakon 2002. Talk about a major jump, but at Otakon I ended up buying this gawdy long pink wig and actually felt more into it when I did. This passed year we went back to Otakon for the first time since then and despite the fire alarm Saturday I really had an incredible time, talked with some wonderful people and really felt like I fit in into the whole thing.

Oh man. The Otakon 2010 fire alarm dealie was crazy! I was there and my group sort of panicked.

Anyway, here are the cons I've attended, all animé cons:

First Animé Con:
Animé Boston 2009. I lived around the corner from the Back Bay region of Boston where the Hynnes Convention Center is, so I said, why the heck not, and I attended. Great first con for me. I was soooo overwhelmed.

Second Animé Con:
Otakon 2009. Awesome experience. I met up with a long time friend from an iRC chat / Skype etc, and it was a blast. I've been going to Otakon annually since then.
