2007 is winding down (can you believe it's almost November?) so that means another year of conventions is almost over. Is everyone getting ready for next year's conventions? I know I am.

So where will you be going? Where do you want to go?

I'll be attending eight (>.<) cons next year, three more than this year. But six of those are New England cons, and living in New England makes that very convenient: Anime Boston, PortConMaine, ConnectiCon, Another Anime Con, Providence Anime Conference, and Bakuretsu Con. The other two cons are Otakon and Dragon*Con. I'm really looking forward to Dragon*Con and PAC.

I would like to go to Anime NEXT, Katsucon, Anime Mid Atlantic, or AnimeUSA as well. But I don't think I'll have the vacation time or money to go to more than the cons I'm already planning to attend. In the next couple of years I would like to attend those just once, and also Anime Central, A-kon, and Anime Expo.

In order, my 2008 list looks like:
Genericon
Anime Boston
PortConMaine
ConnectiCon
Another Anime Convention
Providence Anime Conference
Bakuretsu Con

Possible appearances include Arisia, BlizzCon, and at least one anime con I have to fly to. I'd like to try out one in Europe at some point.

Nothing wrong with small cons, they keep the local fan base happy, and friends in touch. I love AB for the guests and events it brings to Boston, but I look to small cons like AAC, Bakaretsu and Portcon as a means to relax, get my fix and meet the guests in a more personal manner. Talk to people on the con’s forums, see if it sounds like something you’d like to go to.

Sorry, didn't see your local, yes I agree, it's probably to far to go for a con smaller than 1500 people...AB and Conneticon are more appropriate because of their numbers, plus you might want to consider Otakon

For 2008... (This list is still tentative)

* Arisia (most likely Friday/Sat only, still up in the air)
* Katsucon (still debating, depends on who goes)
* Anime Boston (definite, just have to see about room)
* Costume con (far into the future, still dreaming)
* PortCon Maine (did it last year, and loved it)
* Connecticon (skipped out last year, will not do that again)
* Otakon (still pondering)
* Dragon*Con (Holy crap, that was awesome!)
* Providence Anime Conference (Just waiting for registration)

Of course, the list is subject to change without notice.

My 2008 convention schedule is very unsure past the first month or so. Here is my possibly conventions:

-Ohayocon (Live Events Staff)
-Katsucon (Saturday and/or Sunday)
-New York Comic Con (Not sure)
-Mtac (Debating between them and NYC)
-Balticon (definitely)
-Anime Mid-Atlantic (Saturday and hopefully Sunday)
-Otakon (debating between that and the Worldcon)
-Worldcon (Denver, CO is a very nice place to visit. May go to that con instead of Otakon.)
-T-mode (very close to Anime USA this year).
-Baltimore Comic Con (one day only).
-Anime USA (definitely and most like on staff).
-One end of year con (probably NYAF or Sugoicon).

Edited by rednecko on 11-12-07 10:38 AM. Reason for edit: No reason given.

Otafest is quite likely as well.

My 2008 con schedule is really up in the air at this point. I am really hoping to go to the promised land (aka Japan :)) and have a planned date of November 08. If this trip looks like a reality I may skip the summer and fall cons.

Cons I am looking at:

Ohayocon - Haven't missed since '02 but missing is looking likely. None of my friends have shown any interest in attending.

Animarthon - Local college club event that I happened to found. Feel obligated to go plus I get to visit the old school.

Anime Boston - Missed last year but aiming to get back this year. Could be the only con I travel to this year.

Colossal Con - Local con that has moved even closer to my current home. Would be foolish for me not to go.

Otakon - Depends on the trip to Japan but would go if the trip falls through. A lot of my friends go to this one.

Providence Anime Conference
- Would go to this one for sure if I do not go to Japan. I really want to go, but Japan little more important.

Well turns out I never posted in here after all. Things have taken a dramatic U-turn in the last week, I have a job interview, which has thrown every thing topsy-turvy so hoping that I get the job (cross your fingers and knock on wood every body) I'd say my list is so:

Port Con Maine
Providence Anime Conference (I can finally commute to a con!)
Bakuretsu Con (since I get a free ride admission wise this year)

PROTIP: GO TO ANIME BOSTON. AND GO TO PORTCONMAINE. Just do it. Trust me, I'm a Con Whore.

2008:

Anime Boston (Staff)
PortConMaine (Staff)
ConnectiCon (probably doing AB registration...)
Otakon (probably doing AB registration...)
Dragon*Con (OH LORD PLEASE LET THIS ACTUALLY HAPPEN!!!)
MangaNext (planning on doing panels again)
Providence Anime Conference (Staff)

If I'm in town at the right time again, I'll try and hit up Metrocon again...

Crazy Flower had better not ditch us for Connecticon again! That was NOT COOL last year LOL!

I won't! I did so last year and regretted it.

D*C is awesomeness, it is just a mass of fandoms. I may start branching out a bit and maybe go to Arisia for the day or something.

Shiva can't make it to AB this year (Something about being on the other side of the world or something...) So I may be coerced into Katsu after all.

Metrocon was a pretty good time. I also has a great time at AWA in 2006. It is just too far to travel to justify going back again though. It will be easier for me to get to Metro again since I have family in Tampa who I visit regularly.

I may modify my list again and look into going to Anime North. It looks like a good possibly because it's in May, and breaks up the time between Anime Boston and PortCon. I'll have to get a passport though.

I was looking at going to a Florida convention, either AFO or Metrocon, but I don't think that will happen. I stayed at the same hotel/convention center that AFO is held at this summer for another event (it was the weekend before AFO too... if I knew about it sooner I might have stayed for both events). I really liked the hotel, facilities, and location (lots of restaurants in walking distance - always a good thing). But it's in August, which already is pretty busy with conventions for me. Plus Metrocon is in late July, which would put it close to both PortCon and ConnectiCon.

Yep, I know I'm replying to myself, but I should edit my choices. (You know you're bad when one's family says "You know there's a convention in Tampa, you going?" I said no)

Let's see now: (Bold is definite, Italics are maybe)
Arisia: Went, only had fun because of the people there.
Katsucon: See Arisia.
Anime Boston: *cackle*
AnimeNext: I don't know if I want to deal with that location again.
PortConMaine: This is leaning toward a yes, though.
Connecticon: Again, it's the week right before..
Otakon: And I got my flight for 60 RT.
Dragon*Con: Excuse to see family, and down south people.
Providence Anime Conference: I have yet to see the First Night picture.
Another Anime Con: Maybe, have to see who's going, plus whether I'm involved.
Bakuretsu: VT in Oct, is a bit of a drive.

Geez, that's a lot.

Seriously? I thought I got a good deal four years ago when I paid $120 round trip. I'm driving down with my two brothers (plus possibly one more person) and I wish it could be that cheap for us to fly.

My list has changed as well (and may change again):

Definites:
Arisia: Went, had fun, would be much better if it was in a bigger place and had more costuming
Anime Boston: Staff, plus I wouldn't miss it
Acen: Was asked by a friend to go, look forward to it
PortConMaine: Also staff, plus I loved it last year
ConnectiCon: Will be crazy with a con the following weekend
Otakon: Will be crazy two weeks, but fun
Providence Anime Conference: Just waiting for registration to open

Maybes:
AnimeNEXT: Depends on money and my work situation, but it will probably wait till next year
Another Anime Convention: I'll probably end up there again, it helps that my brother lives in the same city
Bakuretsu Con: Depends on if I can get the time off, which may be tough if I get a new job this year. I thought it was worth the drive though, but only if I can attend the whole thing.

Dragon*Con is out for me this year because my friend is getting married that weekend. Next year I'll be there.

Uhoh, which First Night picture? Now I'm a little frightened....

My list is AB, PAC, and maybe going to a few of the other New England cons to run reg tables. I wish I still had time and money to actually go to cons...for that matter, I'd love to staff Portcon or CTCon for a year or two. I'm a little nervous about the "tunnel vision" that comes from always working in the same organization.

I was in full costume as well. (Which made for a very interesting face painting time)

The more I think of it, the more likely I may *have* to go to CTC and PortCon. Jeni and Shiva would kill me if I didn't.

What happened down in that filming room in First Night?!?!

As for the 60 RT, I did it by redeeming one way with frequent flier credits and got the other one for 49 with tax.

Ah, I see. I wish I flew enough to get frequent flier credits. I bet if I got a rewards credit card for a particular airline and used that instead of my current one for con purchases (hotel, food, gas, dealer's room, etc.) I could get something.

Things like airtran are easy to earn credits with. One RT is 2 credits, and rent a car for a week can be another 1-2 credits. I can fly to Dragon*Con and visit family and have enough credits on that trip alone to get a business seat upgrade. Do it twice, and you have enough credits to go one way somewhere.

Add to the fact that airtran is cheap, and it flies to the places where I want to go non-stop (Like ATL and Baltimore)

I just wished I could go to a con out west somewhere.

Maybe I'll go out of state for a con in May or December. It's the only two months that Florida doesn't have a con. Heck, most months have multiple cons. Sheesh....

YES!! Go to Portcon again!! Is fun times.

I've actually scratched most of the cons I was originally thinking of attending simply due to lack of interest.

DEFINITE: Anime Boston, PAC, Portcon (providing I do not have trouble getting the time off from work fro Portcon.)

MAYBE: MangaNext.

Not going to Otakon because it is FAIL, and I recently scratched Connecticon from my list because the only reason I was going was to do the cosplay musical, but I didn't really feel like doing that anymore, so I had the director re-cast me. D*C is beyond my price range at this point. Will not be going to Metrocon because my sister will not be living in Tampa anymore come this summer.

A light con year for me:

MomoCon <- Just cause I'm Colonel Obvious (got promoted from Captain).

Otakon <- scratching off another from my "At Least Once List"

And the Dragon*Con follow-uped by AWA double-whammy.

Don't say "if I get to be staff again at DragonCon anime track", you WILL be staff again if you so desire! The anime/animation track at D*Con has been split into two (so we get more staffers), anime is getting a bigger room (still in the Hyatt), and I am staying with the American Animation side and the tiny back-woods little room in the basement...

I was at MomoCon, will be at AWA and DragonCon, and am looking to hit two out-of-state ones this year (probably Otakon and maybe a Florida show).

I will likely be attending:

Anime North
Ai-Kon
Kita-Kon (obviously)

Other than that there isn't much else in Canada. I would maybe go down to Minneapolis next year.

I'd like to go to a lot of cons, but I don't have much money, so I just hit a few and make them big. I'll attend:

-Acen
-JAFAX

And possibly Ikasucon.

As far as I can tell, I'll be at...

Momocon, Anime St. Louis, Middle Tennessee Anime Con, Anime central, Project A-Kon, Anime Expo, San Diego Comic Con, Dragon Con, and Anime Weekend Atlanta.

Hmmm... cures boredom I guess...
